11 yr old Makenna sharing surf advice between waves.
Expert Surfer Advice… at 11
We make girls out of women is a slogan I coined back when Las Olas was just a tiny drop in the ocean. Over time that motto became our mission and a compass for everything we do.
Over the holidays, I had a dream-come-true moment to surf with my grand-niece, Makenna.
At 11 years old, she’s pure joy from head to toe radiating a playful spirit better than anyone I know. Her love for the ocean is contagious. You can’t help but want to paddle out with her.
So I asked Makenna to share her wisdom with the women of Las Olas and she delivered.

Forget your phone & paddle away from the crowd. Just focus.

There’s no shade out in the waves, so cover up.

I met a really nice dog. She barks if you don’t pet her. She only has one eye so they call her La Pirata.

There are lots of animals in the ocean, but they don’t bother you.

My brother and I helped baby sea turtles get their first waves.

Watch for the best waves before you paddle out. I sing a song to help me concentrate.
And don’t worry if you wipe out. You’re supposed to get wet.

Surfer Makenna & Auntie Bev.
That’s excellent advice. Thank you Makenna!
I hope she inspires your inner surfer girl to paddle out with us this season.
See you in the waves,
Bev
